Navigating Officer / Deck Officer

(A) DNS (Diploma in Nautical Science) Leading to B.Sc Nautical Science ( 1 yr)

Selection for DNS (Diploma in Nautical Science) is done through Common Entrance Test conducted by Indian Maritime University twice every year at various city across India. The successful candidates can take their admission in various DG Shipping approved Pre-Sea Training Institutions.

Educational Qualification:

  1. Pass in 10+2 examination from a recognized Board / University with Physics, Chemistry and  Mathematics (PCM), with not less than 60% aggregate marks in PCM.

OR

With Physics as  an  individual  subject in any one of the years of B.Sc., with not less than 60% marks in the final year of B.Sc., from a recognized University provided that the candidate must have passed 10+2 examination with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) from a recognised Board.

OR            

B.E./B. Tech. with 60% Mark or it’s equivalent degree from I.I.T. or from a college recognized by AICTE/UGC. AND

  1. Should have passed with not less than 50% marks in English as a separate subject, at either 10th or 12th standard or in the Degree programme conducted by a recognized Board University.

Age Limit: Not more than 25 years. The age limit is relaxable by 2 years in case of female candidates and 5 years for SC/ST candidates and 3 yrs for OBC candidates.

Physical and Medical Standards: Medically fit as per the standards set by Merchant Shipping Medical Examination Rules, 2000 as amended from time to time.

Eyesight:

Eye without visual aids. Normal colour vision. Candidates will have to undergo a full eyesight test 6/6 in each conducted by the Mercantile Marine Department (MMD) before being finally selected for the programme.

Marine Engineer ( B.Tech Marine Engg. / Graduate Marine Engg. )

(A) PGDME(Post Graduate Diploma in Marine Engg/GME (Graduate Marine Engg) – 1 year

Admission to this Course is done through Indian Maritime University and through other Maritime Training Institute approved by D.G.Shipping, Govt Of India. After successfully completing this course, the candidate can join on board merchant ship as Trainee Engineer / Junior Engineer.

Academic Qualification:

Graduate in B. E / B. Tech Mechanical recognized by AICTE with minimum 60 % aggregate in Degree.  AND  Minimum 50% in English either 10th or 12th or in Degree Course.

 Age Limit:  Not more than 28 years.

Physical and Medical Standards:

Medically fit as per the standards set by Merchant Shipping Medical Examination Rules, 2000 as amended from time to time.

Eyesight:

Glasses will be allowed up to plus or minus 2.5.Un-aided vision should be 6/12 in both eyes minimum or 6/9 in the good eye and 6/12 in the other eye at least. Defective colour vision is a Disqualification.

(B) B.Tech Marine Engineering   – 4 years

Admission to this Course is done through IMU Common Entrance Test conducted all over India and successful candidates are allowed to take admission in Maritime Training Institute approved by D.G.Shipping, Govt. Of India.  After successfully completing this course, the candidate can join on board merchant ship as Tr. Marine Engineer / Junior Engineer.

Academic Qualification: A pass in 10+ 2 or its equivalent examination with minimum 60% aggregate in Physics, chemistry and Mathematics group, and at least 50% in English at 10th or 12th standard

Age Limit:

17 to 25 years as on date of course commenced.

SC/ST : relaxable as per Government guidelines

Physical and Medical Standards:

Medically fit as per the standards set by Merchant Shipping Medical Examination Rules, 2000 as amended from time to time.

 Eyesight:

Distance vision (unaided) 0.5 (values given in Snellen Decimal Notation) (6/12) in each eye or 0.67 (values given in Snellen Decimal Notation). (6/9) in better eye and 0.33 (Values given in Snellen Decimal Notation) and (6/18) in other eye. Normal colour vision.

Electro-Technical Officer (ETO) : ( 4 Months )

Admission to this Course is done in Maritime Training Institute approved by D.G.Shipping, Govt. Of India.  The duration of this course is 17 weeks. After successfully completing this course, the candidate can join on board merchant ship as Tr. Electro-Technical Officer. After onboard training of 6 months, he will be certified as Electro-Technical Officer.

Age Limit: Maximum age  35 years

Minimum Academic Qualification :

i) Passed three years’ Diploma or four year’s Degree with 60% marks in Engineering in Electrical or Electronics or Electrical & Electronics or Electronics & Telecommunication /

Communication or Electronics & Instrumentation or equivalent.

ii) The Diploma / Degree Courses must have been recognized by any State or Central Government or the AICTE.

 

The candidates must have secured minimum 50% marks in English in 10 th or 12

th standard exams. lf a candidate could not secure 50% marks in English in 10 th or

12 th standard exams shall still be eligible provided the candidate secures 50 % in the

degree exam and the medium of learning in degree was English.

General Purpose Rating Course (GP Rating) : ( 6 Months )

After successfully completing this course, the candidate can join on board merchant ship as Tr. Deck Rating or Engine Rating.

Eligibility :

Pass with aggregate 40% marks in 10th Standard from Govt. recognized board with Science, English & Maths as subjects. And Minimum 40 % in English at 10th Std.

OR

I.T.I. – 2 Year Engineering Trades from Govt. Approved Institute with minimum 50% aggregate marks in final year and minimum 40 % in English at 10th Std.

Age Limit:

Between 17.5 year to 25 years before entry in training (On 1st January Or 1st July).

27 yrs for Diploma/Degree Candidates.

Age Relaxation 5 yrs for SC/ST & 3 yrs for OBC Candidates.

 

Medical Fitness :

Physically Fit, Normal colour vision. 6/6 in each eye without visual aids. No speech impairment (disorder) .

Height and Weight (Height without shoes: weight in indoor clothing)

Minimum Height 157 cm. (5’2″)    Weight 48kg (105 lbs.)

 

Duration : 6 month , Course starts first week of January and July each year.

Career path for GP Rating

Maritime Catering Course (CCMC) : ( 6 Months )

Admission to this Course is done in Maritime Training Institute approved by D.G.Shipping, Govt. Of India.  The duration of this course is 6 months. After successfully completing this course, the candidate can join on board merchant ship as Tr. Cook or Tr. Steward.

With further experience he can be promoted to Chief Cook or Chief Steward.

Age Limit:

Between 17.5 to 25 years

Minimum Qualification :

Pass with aggregate 40% marks in 10th standard  from a recognized Board with at least 40% marks  in English in 10th standard.

The candidate should be physically and medically fit for service at sea.
